While I’ve been familiar with Brown since before she released her album in UK this past July, U.S. audiences are just starting to hear her music on prime time TV spots all over the place, including “Back In Time” being featured on the CW’s The Vampire Diaries and, CSI: NY; “Shark In The Water” on MTV’s The City, and “Everybody” in a Desperate Housewives promo spot. All of this TV presence can only be a good thing, especially as Brown gets ready to embark on her first ever U.S. tour.
Prior to the album’s release, Capitol Records will release a 2-track 7-inch Single that includes the Little Boots remix of Brown’s debut single “Leave!” as well as the Andrew Weatherall remix of “Crying Blood.” Additional promotional activity includes a late October series of appearances in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. While in LA, Brown will appear as a guest on the prestigious KCRW radio program Morning Becomes Eclectic (October 27th). This is quite the jam-packed 4-day stint! Brown also was featured on the cover of WWD’s October 15th issue and appears in the current issue of Interview magazine. While all well and good, Brown is only heading one of the shows. Not enough V V, if you ask me.
My only hope is that this short trip generates considerable buzz and that Brown returns to this side of the pond for a small headlining tour sometime next year. It’s my goal to see Brown perform somewhere small and intimate like Great Scott’s, Paradise Rock Club, The Roxy or somewhere of that nature. Ideally I’d love to see her at a club somewhere in New York City, but we’ll see. America is in desperate need of V V’s unique brand of retro-infused pop deliciousness. That combined with Brown’s passion for funky vintage garb makes for something that U.S. audiences haven’t seen over here since Amy Winehouse. I for one can’t wait to watch Americans start falling in love with her.
SIDE NOTE: U.S. fans, you may also purchase two music videos on iTunes – “Leave!” and “Crying Blood.” UK fans, the charity single “I Got Soul,” featuring V V, as well as several other talented UK artists – is out now.
