Up to this point, London-based singer/songwriter Jasmine Thompson has been known for her self-released piano-pop covers of popular songs by everyone from Ed Sheeran and Passenger to Clean Bandit and Bastille. Now, with the release of her first ORIGINAL track, “Adore,” we get to see a completely different side of the 14-year old chanteuse. With a summery vibe, this new up-tempo stunner serves as the lead single and title track off Thompson’s forthcoming Atlantic Records debut EP, Adore, due later this summer. While Jasmine Thompson is predominantly known for her stripped back, acoustic pop covers this shift to a more dance-pop shouldn’t come as a complete surprise, given recent collaborations with German DJ/Producers Robin Schulz (“Sun Goes Down“) and Felix Jaehn (“Aint Nobody (Loves Me Better)“), with the former achieving international gold and platinum certifications following both Top 5 and Top 10 chart runs throughout Europe. “Jasmine’s vocals on ‘Sun Goes Down’ were a perfect accompaniment to my production,” Schulz says. “Her voice has a global sensibility and the potential to reach the world.” I’m inclined to agree, and now with her first official release in America through Atlantic Records, we’ll get to see her reach expand into, arguably one of the tougher markets for international artists to crack.
This rising star first started getting attention after posting videos on her YouTube Channel, singing anything and everything popular on radio at the time with her stirring rendition of English folk-rocker Passenger‘s 2012 hit-single “Let Her Go” garnering over 21.5 million views on YouTube. Now, having amassed over 250 million video views with over 1 million YouTube subscribers watching her stunning reconstructions of popular songs by Vance Joy, Ed Sheeran, John Legend, Hozier, Avicii and Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth—Jasmine Thompson is finally ready to show the world who she really is as an artist with her first original offering, “Adore.”
Thompson has spent a majority of this year crafting her forthcoming EP; writing and recording in New York and Los Angeles with pop hitmakers like Jesse Shatkin (Sia, Kelly Clarkson), Amy Wadge (Ed Sheeran), Josh Grant & Scott Harris (Shawn Mendes) and Emily Warren (Jessie J.). Can’t wait to hear what other musical gems Jasmine Thompson has in store for us.
