Belgian singer/songwriter (and Music Is My King Size Bed ‘One to Watch‘) Selah Sue is about to EXPLODE stateside! Mark my words! In addition to releasing her self-titled debut album on August 21st via Columbia Records, the talented songstress has been announced as the opener for Ed Sheeran‘s forthcoming VH1 You Oughta Know Tour, kicking off September 17th in Toronto! Now, that’s what I call an extreme vote of confidence!
While Selah Sue is just beginning to introduce herself here in America, she’s already practically a household name in Europe, with her album debuting in the top 10 in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, earning the talented singer/songwriter multiple platinum certifications. While her distinctive voice is reminiscent of artists like Duffy and Joss Stone, Selah Sue is absolutely her own artist and a complete original. Blending pop, soul, funk and reggae, her genre-bending musical style has made her a “Must-See” artist at festivals all over the world.
Speaking of LIVE, Selah Sue is no doubt excited to hit the road with another talented up & comer from Europe, UK singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran, who will bring his sensitive pop-folk stylings to North America this fall. In addition to her upcoming tour with Sheeran, Selah Sue was here in America supporting both Emeli Sande and Beth Orton as well as two sold-out New York City showcases with her full band, as well as performances at The Roots Picnic and the UCLA Jazz Reggae Festival.
Her forthcoming album, already out abroad, will feature three exclusive, never-before-heard songs when it comes out in America: “On The Run,” “Break” and the Jerry Wonda (Wyclef Jean, The Fugees)-produced “Fade Away.” Additionally, a new version of the Selah Sue staple, “Raggamuffin” featuring rap superstar J. Cole will also appear, as well as the Cee-Lo Green-assisted “Please” and the Meshell Ndegeocello-co-written “Mommy.”
Download “Raggamuffin” (iTunes US) now and check Selah Sue on tour this fall! I also included the video for her 2011 Belgian single, “Crazy Vibes” BELOW.
