Robbie Williams Will Release Ninth Studio Album, Take The Crown, November 5th; First Single, ‘Candy’ Out October 28th

    Robbie Williams Candy
As one of three fans of Robbie Williams CRIMINALLY underrated seventh studio album, Rudebox, I don’t think I’ll ever really LOVE another Robbie album quite as much as I did that one.  That being said, “Rock DJ” is one of my ALL-TIME fav Robbie Williams tracks, and his latest single, “Candy,” due October 28th, is in the same vein and QUITE delectable, especially when you pair it with its incredibly cheeky video counterpart.  Williams says of the track,

“It’s a summer song…about a girl who thinks she’s great. And she might be, but she’s a bit nefarious with her ways. Some songs take an age to write and some songs just fall out of your mouth completely formed, and you don’t have to think about it.  I don’t know why that fell out of my mouth and out of my brain at that particular time – it just did.”

Not that I know him or anything, but THIS is how I would imagine Robbie Williams in his regular, every day life; silly, funny, a little bit naughty.  Co-written by Robbie and his Take That band mate Gary Barlow (along with Terje Olsen) and produced by Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol, Two Door Cinema Club), “Candy” is a personality-filled and very sweet little sampling of what fans can expect on Robbie’s forthcoming NINTH studio album, Take The Crown, due out November 5th via Universal Records.

In the video for “Candy,” Robbie plays the part of a mischievous (and quite handsome, I might add) guardian angel, assigned to protect a beautiful, slightly aloof young woman (played by Skins actress Kaya Scodelario).  Robbie gets himself into all sorts of trouble, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake as he prances around after this blissfully unaware young lady, all the while donning a pale pink suit with a little halo perched above his head.  Quirky and a bit weird, this video is the PERFECT complement to this song.
    Robbie Williams Take The Crown
Hard to believe that Take The Crown will be Robbie’s NINTH studio album. That’s INSANE! What a career! Of the new album, Robbie says: “After the Take That reunion – a busman’s holiday, a break from my career which re-energised me in many, many ways – I wanted to come back with a massive solo album.”  Well, it looks like he might have succeeded.  While the album isn’t out until November, music industry magazine, Music Week have had a listen and they LOVE it.

“Take The Crown is the big, brash, confident Robbie Williams pop record that his fans have been longing for but maybe didn’t dare expect. If it had a sub-title it would be ’In Case You’d Forgotten’. Not wishing to denigrate the art of the record executive, but Island may as well have chosen the lead single by chucking a dart at the inlay sleeve. They couldn’t have missed. Because there are no misses. Just hits – huge pop hits.”

Quite the RINGING endorsement, no?  This little write-up and new single, “Candy” certainly have whet my appetite for Take The Crown.  The album will be available in two formats, standard and deluxe, as well as on double vinyl.  Pre-order Take The Crown here (iTunes UK) and download it November 5th.  You can also pre-order the “Candy” (iTunes UK) EP, due October 28th and featuring remixes by Max Sanna & Steve Pitron, Major Look and an alternate version of the single, simply labeled “More Candy.”  For more info on the album, including pre-ordering and track listings, check out Robbie’s official website.  In the meantime, scope out the video for “CandyBELOW.
