Kylie Celebrates 25 Years, ‘The Best of Kylie Minogue’ Due Next Month

    The Best of Kylie Minogue

EMI Catalogue announced today, the release of a new Kylie Minogue compilation, The Best of Kylie Minogue.  Based in London, EMI Catalogue covers a range of artists, everyone from David Bowie and Pink Floyd to The Beatles and Spandau Ballet, releasing special editions, compilations, reissues, box sets and more.  Due June 4th in Europe and June 19th in America, The Best of Kylie Minogue will feature twenty one of Kylie’s best known songs spanning her impressive 25-year career.  According to the press release, these songs were chosen by fans “through extensive market research conducted by EMI late last year” (AKA all the gays) and 18 of the 21 tracks were Top 5 hits for Kylie in the UK, including five #1 singles. That’s quite the collection!

The Best of Kylie Minogue will be Kylie’s eighth official compilation album since 1992 when she released Greatest Hits through her original record label, PWL.  Other key Kylie Minogue compilation albums include Hits+ (BMG, 2000), Greatest Hits 87-92 (PWL, 2002), Greatest Hits 87-97 (BMG, 2003), Greatest Hits 1987-1999 (Festival Records, 2003), Ultimate Kylie (Parlophone, 2004), and Hits (EMI Music Japan, 2011).  Of course, this isn’t meant to be an all inclusive list, as there’s been various other compilations released over the years, not to mention boxed sets, remix albums and and more.  If you’re like me and already own AT LEAST one of these previously aforementioned compilations, you can opt for the Special Edition CD/DVD, featuring videos for all of the songs.

This upcoming July marks the 25 year anniversary of the release of Kylie’s debut single, “Locomotion,” (later re-titled “The Loco-Motion” by Pete Waterman).  Originally released July 28th 1987, “The Loco-Motion” became a Top 5 hit all over the world including the U.S. (#3), UK (#2), Germany (#3), France (#5) and of course in Australia where it went straight to the top of the chart.  To celebrate this momentous anniversary, Kylie has been honoring her fans with treats throughout the year including musical releases, special performances, collaborations, publications, merchandise, film and other surprises yet to be unveiled.  Kylie recently headlined The Mardi Gras in Sydney before immediately embarking upon her highly anticipated “Anti Tour,” in which she performed some of her most loved B-Sides, rarities and alternate versions of classics.  Kylie will be flying to London next month where she will be performing for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (June 2ndJune 5th) in front of Buckingham Palace, later headlining Proms in the Park followed by “a continuing series of surprises, world-wide.”
