After announcing the title of his debut solo album (My Hurricane) and new label (Virgin Records) earlier this summer, Jamie Scott has some more big news. Well in advance of the album’s newly announced release date of October 7th (same release date as my girl Paloma Faith‘s new record!), Scott is scheduled to make his U.S. Television debut as a solo artist August 5th on Conan (11:00 PM/10:00 Central on TBS), where he will sing a new song, “Unbreakable,” featuring a little help from a string quartet. The 5th will also see the new album go up for pre-order where purchasers will get digital copies of both “My Hurricane” and new song “Unbreakable.” In addition to his U.S. TV debut, Scott will join One Direction for two of their U.S. dates; August 24th in Dallas and again on August 27th in St. Louis. That’s in addition to his previously announced tour dates with OneRepublic. You can take a look at ALL of Jamie Scott‘s tour dates below.
If you’re an anglophile like myself, then you’re likely familiar with the name Jamie Scott. I’ve been a fan of his solo work since 2004 when he released his first single, “Searching.” While his ORIGINAL debut album (reportedly called Soul Searching) was ultimately scrapped, he kept at it releasing music first with a band (Jamie Scott and The Town) in 2007 then most recently in 2011 as part of Graffiti6, his collaborative with TommyD. Graffiti6 signed to Capitol Records here in the U.S. becoming Scott’s first official release on this side of the pond (unless you count a song he did for the Step Up soundtrack).
Behind the scenes, Jamie Scott has been busy as well, writing/producing hit songs from One Direction (“Story Of My Life,” “You & I,” “More Than This”), Christina Perri featuring Ed Sheeran, Ron Sexsmith, Enrique Iglesias and Marsha Ambrosius to name a few. In between his making time for Graffiti6 and writing for other artists, Scott took some time for himself, started a family AND started writing music, for himself this time! It’s these “intensely personal songs” will be featured on his new album, My Hurricane. The sound? “70s-folk-rock-influenced.” OK. I’m game.
The albums lead single (and title track), “My Hurricane” is out now (iTunes), has been described as “an all-out, devil-may-care love song that perfectly embodies the album’s irrepressible and infectious spirit.” Check out the lyric video for the song HERE as well as an acoustic version of the song HERE.
As a member of Graffiti6, Scott had the honor of being named a VEVO Lift Artist leading up the release of the band’s debut album Colours in 2012. Now, in 2014 VEVO has started a series “Catching Up With” where they do just that, catch up with former VEVO Lift Artists. Check out an interview Jamie did with VEVO below.
