After watching (repeatedly) the latest SELF-DIRECTED visual for Scottish electronic DIVA Róisín Murphy only one question comes to mind— WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG!? (Actually, the video is weird as F**K so I may have a few more questions) Check out the video for her latest Hairless Toys single (and my personal favorite) “Evil Eyes,” impacting July 31st.

“Evil Eyes” is the second single taken from Hairless Toys, which was released back in May on Play It Again Sam. It’s also Murphy’s second self-directed clip (she directed the visual for lead single, “Exploitation“) and once again, she introduces us to one of her impeccably styled, retro-inspired wackadoo characters. In “Exploitation,” we met Róisín playing an alcoholic hot mess of an actress involved in a torrid love affair. This time around she’s playing the part of a elegantly off-kilter housewife and mother who goes a little mad. Talking about the video with The Guardian, Murphy says:
“This character I have created goes mad. Of course female hysteria is a cinematic cliché of massive proportions and I was able to find multitudes of reference particularly in Scandinavian films. Nothing about the visual aesthetic is ‘Rock and Roll’ and yet there is plenty of rebellion going on. I find it interesting to create videos that don’t try to look like pop videos at all. Hopefully this will be a mysterious and disorientating experience for the viewer as we are not dealing in anything too concrete here, just ambiguity laced with black humour.”
Download (iTunes) and stream (Spotify) Hairless Toys now. You can also download a fresh set of “Exploitation” remixes, featuring re-jiggerings of the lead single from GotSome, Falco Benz, Alan Fitzpatrick and more (iTunes/Spotify). If you’re lucky enough to live in Europe, be sure and catch her on tour this summer. Check her official site for tour dates.
