Rita Ora released her debut album, Ora in Europe back in August, when the album debuted at #1 on the UK Album Charts. The album’s first two singles, “How We Do (Party)” and “R.I.P.” featuring Tinie Tempah both hit #1 on the Singles Chart, while “Shine Ya Light” managed a top 10 spot with it’s debut. Here in America, Rita has been less successful, with her first two singles peaking at #62 and #103 respectively. Planned third U.S. single, “Radioactive,” has been described as “Guetta-style dancefloor mode” and was written by Aussie singer/songwriter Sia and produced by Greg Kurstin. Given what’s playing on the radio lately, this sounds like it could be the hit that Ora needs to break through here in America. Look out for the video, directed by Syndrome, due out soon. Fingers crossed, girl!
[Hot Video Alert] Rita Ora – Shina Ya Light
Released November 5th on Roc Nation/Columbia Records, “Shine Ya Light” is the third single released by English pop/R&B star Rita Ora. The Emil Nava-directed video sees Rita proudly taking to the streets of her native Kosovo, serving up all sorts of attitude. While I still don’t consider myself a FAN, Rita Ora is definitely growing on me. For me, her sound lacks originality at the moment. “Shine Ya Light” in particular sounds a bit too similar to something Barbadian dance/pop queen Rihanna might have put out a couple of years ago but she’s definitely got the chops to carve out her own niche. We’ll have to see what happens, I guess.
“Shine Ya Light” features a set of dance floor makeovers by The 2 Bears, Bimbo Jones, Dannic and Gregor Salto. The single is available to download in the UK (iTunes).
