HELLO NURSE! In her video for “Crazy,” Australian popstar Ricki-Lee Coulter gets her multiple personalities on, going from sexy nurse to psych patient to hospital psychologist. “Crazy” is the third single off Ricki-Lee‘s upcoming third album, Fear & Freedom, due out August 17th via EMI.
This dancefloor anthem was co-penned by Ricki-Lee, Brian London and Johnny Jam and produced by Tom Piper. Released July 13th, the single debuted on the ARIA Singles Chart at #52 and at #4 on the ARIA Dance Chart before falling out of the top 100 the following week. “Crazy” serves as the follow up to Coulter’s two previous Platinum-selling singles, “Raining Diamonds” and “Do It Like That,” both of which were top 20 hits for the Australian Idol finalist.
While the song doesn’t offer up anything groundbreakingly original, it certainly has dance floor anthem potential, especially when you factor in the über sexy video featuring a STUNNING Ricki-Lee playing a gorgeous, porn-star nurse, wheeling her “CRAZY,” sexified-straight jacket-clad patient down the hall on a gurney. Coulter goes in for costume change #3, playing the part of a bespectacled hospital psychologist evaluating her sexed up alter-ego.
There’s a bit of choreography in the middle of the video that reminds me very much of a “Sweet Dreams My LA Ex“/”So Good“-era Rachel Stevens, from the artistically stacked chairs in the background, to the sexy straight jacket costume. The Melvin J. Montalban-directed video was inspired by the film Terminator 2: Judgement Day (WHAT!?) with Ricki-Lee playing the part of Sarah Connor. Interesting and obscure. I like it.
With remixes by Doctor Werewolf, Bombs Away, “Crazy” is definitely a fun, summer dance-party anthem. I just hope it’s poor chart performance isn’t a sign of things to come with the impending release of Fear & Freedom. Check out the “Crazy” video BELOW and download the single (iTunes Australia) if you’re feeling crazy.
