By now you all know about my Olly Murs crush. Well, latest single “Heart Skips A Beat” does absolutely nothing to get me off of my Olly Murs high. He’s still cute as ever. I also was pleasantly surprised by the new song, in that it wasn’t just another summery early Will Young, Jack Johnson jam song like most of his previous efforts. “Heart Skips A Beat” is actually more current than anything else he’s released to date. Olly even incorporates reggae, some hip-hop and electronic elements into the track. How very refreshing. “Heart Skips A Beat” was co-written by English rapper Example, Samuel Preston, Jim Eliot and Rizzle Kicks, the latter who also appear on the track.
Interestingly enough, “Heart Skips A Beat” is the only song off his upcoming sophomore set that Murs did not co-write. Not only that, but according to Olly, the first single isn’t even a good indicator of what the rest of the album even sounds like. Hmm. Not a good sign. According to Murs in an interview with BANG Showbiz, “The second album is really different to the first single which is coming off it, ‘Heart Skips a Beat’, the song is a summer song, but the album’s completely different, it’s got more of a soulful feel to it.” SOULFUL. Hmm. OK. I can dig it. I would just hate to see another artist’s album fail because they released one single that sounds NOTHING like anything else on the album (*AHEM* Avril Lavigne *AHEM*). Unlike Avril, Olly is off to a really strong start with “Heart Skips A Beat,” debuting in the top spot on the UK Singles Chart. The song also did well in Scotland, peaking at #1 and at #6 in Ireland.
