MIKA is an absolute TREASURE. There’s really no other way to describe him.
Earlier this Spring, I was fortunate enough to see one of THREE intimate stateside performances, in a jam-packed Brooklyn nightclub. This was a “LIVE MUSIC” bucket list moment for me, as I kept missing his performances in America and then he just disappeared for a while. MIKA did not disappoint. Pure joy personified. While he of course sang through his catalog of hits, we were also treated to some of his new material from forthcoming studio album, No Place In Heaven, including this gem of a song called “Good Guys.” Check out the video below.

The visually arresting video for “Good Guys” was directed by KT Aueleta and flawlessly choreographed by Olivier Casamayou. Paying homage to gay culture, in particular gay role models and icons like James Dean, Walt Whitman, Cole Porter, etc. “To all my heroes that were dressed up in gold | only hopin’ one day I could be so bold,” MIKA reminisces. Absolutely perfect. For some interesting insight into the meaning behind the song, check out this recent piece in SLATE.
While MIKA has been elusive here in America these past few years, over in Europe he’s been keeping busy, appearing as a judge on X Factor Italy, The Voice France not to mention taking on the role of creative ambassador to international watch company, Swatch, where he was given the opportunity to design some pieces for their collection. In a recent interview with Billboard, MIKA talks about the inspiration for his new album as well as some upcoming projects, including a cameo in Zoolander 2. His fourth album, No Place In Heaven, is due out June 15th in the UK (Virgin EMI) and on June 16th in the States (Casablanca/Republic).
Pre-order the album now on iTunes UK or in the U.S. (iTunes) and download “Good Guys” PLUS “Talk About You” and the Freddie Mercury-inspired “Last Party” immediately.
