Marcus Collins really is like Janelle Monae‘s little brother! Last year’s 23 year old X-Factor runner up shows his true colors (literally) in the video for his forthcoming new single, “Mercy.” The horn-laden retro-soul stomper is the second single taken from Collins’ self-titled album, which was released back in March, when it debuted at #7 on the UK Albums Chart. “Mercy,” due June 3rd via RCA Records follows Collins’ debut single, a cover of The White Stripes‘ “Seven Nation Army,” which peaked at #9 on the UK Singles Chart in early March. “Mercy” is backed by remixes from iStep and UK house music duo and remix-extraordinaires Full Intention.
In the Amit and Naroop-directed clip, Collins makes a fashion statement as bold and blaring as the song’s brassy intro, decked out in a lavender blazer, white shirt, tan bow-tie, pink pants and turquoise shoes. To complete the look, Collins has shaved musical notes into his sideburns with a treble clef on the back of his neck.
As if this look wasn’t enough of a visual, Collins is flanked throughout the video by a three-piece brass band, dressed equally as impeccably in matching red suits, armed with a trumpet, a French horn and a sax. Trailing the pack are two fabulous platinum-blond back up divas, dressed to kill in matching short black dresses with gold shoulder plates. FABULOUS. When the video transitions from the alleyway to a jazz club, Collins OBVIOUSLY has to switch it up and switch it up he does, turning up the FLAMBOYANCY with a turquoise suit, pastel pink shirt, black bow-tie and red shoes. WERK it boy.
While you can’t snag “Mercy” until it’s released June 3rd (iTunes UK), you CAN pick up Collins’ debut album out now. Check out the video for “Mercy” BELOW.
