And JUST LIKE THAT, I’m over Madonna. Well not entirely. I still worship the ground she walks on and all that jazz but as far as her new album goes? As Katharine McPhee put it best, I’m OVER IT. Admittedly, I was kinda into her first single, “Give Me All Your Luvin‘,” and her second single “Girl Gone Wild,” but when it comes to her the third single, the recently released “Turn Up The Radio,” it just sounds so uninspired, both lyrically and sonically! BLEGH!
Written by Madge along with Martin Solveig and Sunday Girl, the song was reportedly originally meant for Solveig’s 2011 album, Smash, featuring vocals by Sunday Girl however it got shelved and Madonna picked up the scraps. What a waste. Even the remixes do nothing for me, and that’s saying something, considering the caliber of remixers we have going on; Offer Nissim, Laidback Luke, Solveig. I think I’m just over this chapter in her career. While I still maintain that MDNA is superior to Hard Candy, there are about seven albums in her discography that trump her latest release and I’ll leave it at that.
Check out the video for “Turn Up The Radio” which was shot in Florence this past June by director Tom Munro, the man behind Madonna’s 2008 video for “Give It 2 Me.” The video might very well be the best thing about this song…well that and the single artwork, which is a still from the video. Lots of hot European men and beautiful scenery. What more could you want? Aside from a good song, not much I suppose.
To date, “Give Me All Your Luvin‘” is the only MDNA single to chart on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, with both “Girl Gone Wild” and her latest single failing to make the cut. Madonna is working her way towards another dance hit with the single peaking so far at #19 on Billboard‘s Hot Dance Club Play Chart, earning the title of “Greatest Gainer” for the week, having jumped up from #39.
