In case you guys missed it, Kelly Rowland (of Destiny’s Child fame) released a new video today and it’s a SCORCHER! While part most of me prefers the David Guetta-fied Kelendria Rowland that brought us club BANGERS, such as “Commander” and “When Love Takes Over,” there’s another part of me that loves her when she’s in her wheelhouse singin’ some straight up R&B. “Ice,” released this past August, is definitely in Rowland’s wheelhouse.
Co-written by (and featuring) Lil’ Wayne, Sean Garrett, Noel “Detail” Fisher and Rowland herself, “Ice” is OFFICIALLY her second collab as a solo artist with rapper Lil’ Wayne (AKA Dwayne Carter), following last year’s R&B #1 “Motivation,” although they did collaborate on the Destiny’s Child single “Soldier” back in 2004. “Ice” serves as the lead single taken from Rowland’s upcoming fourth studio album, Year Of The Woman, due out later this year/early next year on Universal Republic Records.
While the incorporation of some scintillating synths into this sultry, mid-tempo R&B jam gets me going, I’m holding out for some seriously SICK dance remixes because this genre isn’t typically my bag. That all being said, Rowland has never looked better in the JUST released music video directed by Matthew Rolston. The video features some stunningly sexy choreography and some equally stunning wigs and weaves. An incredibly hot shirtless male model also makes things THAT much more exciting.
“Ice” debuted on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart following it’s initial release as a digital download, ultimately peaking at #26. The song also managed to debut at #100 on the Billboard Hot 100 hart, falling off the very next week, before entering into the Hot 100 one final time at the bottom. Not necessarily the most promising performance but it’s still early in the promotional campaign for Year of the Woman. Hell! We don’t even have an album release date yet! Kelly can do no wrong in my eyes! WORK it girl!
