Apparently…all it took for me to start liking Katy Perry‘s new single was seeing her bosoms exploding with FIREWORKS. Like some kind of X-Men with a busted super power, Katy Perry spreads “good vibes” all over the place in the form of smiles and yes…FIREWORKS. “Firework” is the third single off of Perry’s sophomore album Teenage Dream and was produced by Stargate and Sandy Vee. Like with nearly all of Perry’s past releases, critical reaction of the single (and the video) has been mixed. To date, her live performances of the single, both on Letterman and on X-Factor, proved to be a little shaky. Then again…most of her live performances prove to be shaky so I don’t think that’s really news.
While the individual scenarios that play out in the Dave Meyers-directed video are a bit cliche, it definitely sends a powerful message. The fireworks that appear throughout the video, emerging from within seem to represent a sense of confidence and self worth, a message that’s especially timely right now given what’s in the news of late with regards to bullying and gay suicides. Very cool. The song is definitely growing on me. “Firework” was released on October 26th in the States and is due out in the UK on November 15th. Remixes so far have surfaced from UK remix outfit Wideboys. More to follow I hope!
