Dubstep & UK Garage QUEEN, Katy B is BACK with a killer new single, “What Love Is Made Of,” due out July 7th and featuring remixes from MK, Brackles and the one and only Felix Da Housecat. Following the release of Katy’s flawless debut album, On A Mission, she’s been hard at work, collaborating with Mark Ronson on a groundbreaking tune (“Anywhere In The World“) created exclusively for Coca-Cola as part of their 2012 Summer Olympics campaign. In December of last year, Katy released her free Danger EP, featuring hot collabs with Diplo, Wiley and 2013 “It Girl” and all around big deal – Jessie Ware, who’s stunning tune “Aaliyah” is one of my jams right now. While the EP was certainly a pleasant surprise, I’m beyond excited that we have an OFFICIAL single comin’ out from her sophomore set.
Katy B has been on my radar since her first Benga-produced single, “Katy On A Mission” was unleashed back in 2010. Since then, I’ve fallen deeper and deeper in love with her sound and subsequent singles (“Lights On,” “Broken Record,” “Easy Please Me,” and “Witches Brew“). On A Mission, which peaked on the UK Album charts at #2, was one of my favorites of 2011, and I was beyond thrilled when she released it here in America in September of that year.
Back in March, Katy revealed to Billboard that she was about 95% finished with her second LP, with plans for it to be out sometime this summer on Columbia Records. The album, which is as of yet, untitled, features a reunion with London-based grime/dubstep/house producer Geeneus, with whom Katy worked on a good portion of her debut. “He’s kind of like my Timbaland to Missy Elliott,” she told the music mag. Other collaborators include Fraser T Smith (Adele, Ellie Goulding), Diplo and rumor has it…Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue). Katy has also hinted that, while a majority of the album will be EDM, “there’s a few more songs you can imagine me singing in my bedroom rather than in the middle of a dance floor.” I for one, am looking forward to Katy B showcasing those beautiful vocals we all know she has.
