“The club is alive with the sound of music.” Interesting incorporation of the famous “hills are alive…” bit from The Sound of Music. This bit of lyrical “genius” comes to us courtesy of X-Factor‘s resident R&B/pop supergroup, JLS who recorded/are recording second LP here in the States. First single, “The Club Is Alive” is due out July 4th in the UK and features remixes by UK remix outfit Wideboys.
Interesting that JLS is now going in a decidedly electro-pop direction…or is it expected? I do like that they infuse R&B/Hip-hop elements throughout the song in an effort to keep it more their style of music. I am NOT a fan of the chorus though…especially that Sound of Music sampling. While JLS aren’t the first to poppify/urbanize show tunes (see Gwen Stefani’s “Wind It Up” and “Rich Girl“) this borrowed lyric just rubs me slightly the wrong way. What do you think of the boys’ new single?
