Clearly still riding high off of the success of their last collaboration, “On The Floor,” Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and mega hitmaker RedOne are back together on Lopez’ next smash dance/pop single, “Dance Again.” Released April 2nd through Lopez’s label Epic Records, “Dance Again” was co-penned by RedOne, AJ Junior, The Chef, Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull. The song debuted on Billboard‘s Pop Songs chart at #34, followed by a #27 debut on the Hot 100 shortly after the release of the music video on American Idol. Not bad JLo. Not bad.
While the song is supremely catchy, “Dance Again” isn’t anything groundbreaking or original, I suppose that doesn’t matter, considering how JLo‘s last two singles (“I’m Into You” and “Papi“) have pretty much bombed on the charts. With her new single, Lopez retreats back to her “safe place,” that of course being a collaboration with RedOne and Pitbull. “On The Floor” served as JLo‘s lead single off her seventh studio album, Love?, proceeded to hit #1 in 23 countries. While the single didn’t go #1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 (#3), the song did top the Hot Dance Club Songs chart, thanks to a sick remix package featuring mixes by CCW, Ralphi Rosario, Low Sunday, and Mixin’ Marc & Tony Svejda. While official mixes for “Dance Again” have yet to emerge, given JLo‘s track record on the dance charts, I can pretty much guarantee that we’ll see some soon.
Now, how about the music video for “Dance Again“? Back in 2011, “On The Floor” had the pleasure of becoming VEVO‘s ‘Most Watched Video‘ of the year, not to mention the most viewed video by a female artist of all time. The pressure is on! The “Dance Again” clip was directed by long-time JLo collaborator Paul Hunter (“If You Had My Love,” “Love Don’t Cost A Thing,” “Papi“) and features sexy choreography by Frank Gatson Jr, as well as an appearance by Lopez’s current beau, Casper Smart. This video has it all; Lopez serving flawless realness and sexy She-Wolf Shakira-style stripper moves; glittery hair flips & body paint; a blind fold that reads ‘Love Is Blind‘; a mound of writhing hot bodies A LA Kylie Minogue‘s “All The Lovers” video…what more could you want? Product placement, you say? Would a strategically placed bottle of JLo‘s latest fragrance ‘Glowing‘, beautifully back-lit by a stream of light bursting through an open doorway, cut it for you?
Lopez premiered the video for “Dance Again” on American Idol April 5th, followed by YouTube and VEVO shortly after. Download the single on U.S. iTunes HERE.
