When you’re in a pinch and need four minutes, twenty-seven seconds to make a decision about who stays and who goes on American Idol, I guess it helps that one of the judges just happens to have a new music video to unveil. Towards the end of tonight’s results show, host Ryan Seacrest introduced the TAJ Stansberry (Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Taio Cruz)-directed video for Jennifer Lopez‘s new single, “On The Floor.” Hot off the heels of more artistic and controversial fare from the likes of Britney Spears and Lady Gaga, “On The Floor” doesn’t really offer anything in the way of WOW factor. It’s just another video with a pretty lady in a club, dancing sexily against a wall and whipping her hair back and forth. BORING! Sure, J-Lo looks hotter than ever but the video is a total snore.
The song on the other hand is a grower, especially backed by an impressive remix package with mixes from CCW, Low Sunday, Ralphi Rosario, and Mixin’ Marc & Tony Svejda. Produced by RedOne and featuring rapper Pitbull, “On The Floor” is lifted off of Lopez’ forthcoming 7th studio album, Love? due this Spring on Island/Def Jam. The up-tempo club track debuted at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 becoming her first Top Ten hit in 8 years (2003’s “All I Have“). Elsewhere, the single did even better, peaking at #1 in Belgium and Finland and #2 on the Canadian Hot 100.
