Leave it to Diplo and Skrillex to make me fall for a Justin Bieber song (damn it). I wish I could say it was the F**KING AWESOME video that converted me into a “Belieber“, but no. It was the song that instantly grabbed me the very first time I heard it and has yet to let go. “Where Are Ü Now” is the latest single released by Jack Ü; a new dance duo comprised of two MAJOR music forces—Diplo and Skrillex. The song is included on the duo’s first album, Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack U. Check out the video below.

The video (which is DROP DEAD STUNNING) starts out with the camera panning across a wall filled with TV monitors. There, we see Justin Bieber standing there singing in a dark studio. Then, right as the song turns from sad ballad into dancefloor banger—the video turns into a piece of living art. In the video the audience is given an inside look at how it was made, including what looks like hundreds of artists (over each frame of the video) painting, using crayons and colored pastels to create brightly colored designs, words, phrases, quotes, angel wings, devil horns—you name it! The results are SICK.
According to Jack Ü in a statement:
“We are being overwhelmed, in a good way, by the success of “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber, so with the video we wanted to just take it back to the beginning of the record & essentially create an ode to our fans. Doing what we do, it’s entirely all about the fans. We walk a fine line by being “famous” and in the public eye but we are only here because of you, the fans. Justin wrote this record during a tough time in his life and it comes to us that sometimes, as artists, we are also just objects and we have to take that as much as we have to use that to create. We all do this for you, respect that you put us here and it’s Ü that made the video.”
“Where Are Ü Now” was written and recorded as a piano ballad and produced by Karl Rubin and Jordan Ware before Bieber sent it to Diplo/Skrillex. The song could EASILY have been a single for the Biebs himself but works really well as an emotive dance ballad, thanks to Jack Ü‘s superior production skills. To date, Where Are Ü Now has peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, consequently earning Skrillex and Diplo their very first Top 40 hit. The song is also a bonafied hit internationally, hitting Top 10 in Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden and Top 5 in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
While “Where Are Ü Now” is certainly converting SOME skeptics into temporary “Beliebers,” (it’s a GOOD F**KING SONG people!) not everyone (Deadmau5 included) is loving it. When fans of U.S. DJ/producer Kaskade caught wind that he remixed the new Bieber-assisted club cut, they were not happy. Being the classy DJ he is, Kaskade defended his remix telling his fans (and assorted other haters) “Close your eyes and listen to the music…I don’t really care who is singing it. If the song is good and I like it and I have time and they ask – I remix it. I am about the music.” True story. Check out Kaskade‘s remix below.

A remix EP is available to download (iTunes) and stream (Spotify) featuring Kaskade‘s refix plus additional mixes by Rustie, Marshmello and Ember Island.
