Beth Ditto and company (AKA Gossip) unveiled their new video last week, the same day they dropped their fifth studio album, A Joyful Noise. “Move In The Right Direction,” due July 2nd in the UK, is the album’s second single, the follow up to “Perfect World,” which was released back in March. The new album sees the Seattle-based indie pop/rock band move in a different direction, going decidedly more POP than on previous releases.
Produced by Xenomania‘s Brian Higgins, A Joyful Noise is generally a mixed bag, with “Move In The Right Direction” DEFINITELY being one of the albums stronger tracks and therefore a worthy choice for a follow up single. The up-tempo song was co-written by frontwoman Beth Ditto, alongside Higgins, Toby Scott, Jason Resch, Fred Falke and Kieran Jones. The album debuted at #47 on the UK Albums Chart and at #100 on the Billboard 200, a vast improvement from their 2009 major label debut, Music For Men, which peaked at #164 on the Billboard chart. On the flip side, over in the UK, the album became the band’s lowest charting record to date, with the last two charting in the Top 20.
Beth Ditto works it out in front of a green screen in the Price James-directed video clip (BELOW), which performs double duties, both as a lyric video and music video for the single. The predominantly black & white video features the occasional red splash of color, with a fierce-looking Ditto shakin’ it in front of a troop of male dancers.
A Joyful Noise is out worldwide right now. Check out this fun Gossip infomercial promoting the band’s new album. Also, in case you missed it, Gossip‘s leading lady was a guest on Bravo TV‘s Watch What Happens Live with host Andy Cohen, appearing alongside pop divo Adam Lambert. Check out clips #1, #2, #3 and #4 (loving Ditto and Lambert’s rapport!).
“Move In The Right Direction” will be out in the UK on July 2nd (iTunes UK).
