“The Writer” is Ellie Goulding’s fourth single off of her debut album, Lights, the video for which, was just released. The song is a light and summery affair, featuring a sun-lit Goulding flitting about a field and exploring a beautiful lighthouse. The beautiful Starsmith-produced track, written by Goulding and Jonny Lattimer wouldn’t have been MY next choice for a single. I’d probably have gone for Starsmith’s “This Love (Will Be Your Downfall)” which is fast becoming one of my favorite non-single tracks from Lights. I unfortunately don’t see “The Writer” making a big impact on the UK singles charts but who knows. I’ve been wrong before! Goulding is one of my favorite artists to come about in a good long while so I’m just happy that we have another single off the album at all.”The Writer” will be released August 9th on Polydor.
