Well this is a fun one for a Sunday afternoon/evening. Slam Dunk’d is a new project from Arthur Baker, an American producer and DJ who’s worked with Afrika Bambaataa, Planet Patrol and New Order, to name a few. Slam Dunk’d‘s first offering, a contemporary disco floor filler called “No Price” features the FUNK LORDZ themselves, Chromeo plus Canadian producer and part of MSTRKRFT, AL-P (born Alex Puodziukas). Due out in September via Baker’s own Baked Recordings and released through Columbia Records, you can listen to “No Price” in full below.
According to the press release, “No Price” has been waiting since 1979 to get an official release. The track was originally produced and scheduled to drop that year however London Records went bankrupt and the multitracks were subsequently lost. Fast forward to…well, three decades later when Baker is sorting through storage and stumbles across a rough mix of the song. Collaborating in the studio with AL-P, Baker worked the track over, “looping and cutting elements to transform it,” and give it a contemporary makeover that should do just fine on dance floors worldwide this year and next. The final piece of the puzzle…new vocals from Chromeo‘s Dave 1 and VOILA! “No Price” is reborn! Pretty cool back story if you ask me.
Stay tuned for more on Slam Dunk’d, including an official release date and a tour.
