Last month I was so impressed with the Björk-like sounds of Swedish singer/songwriter Karin Park, that I touted her as a ‘One to Watch’ this year. Now as the impending release of her new single, “Restless” draws nearer, I’m still feeling as confident as ever with my decision. Set for release on May 28th (iTunes UK) through State Of The Eye Recordings, “Resltess” is the first single taken from her upcoming debut album, Highwire Poetry, due the very same day.
Dark and atmospheric, “Restless” is a lovely UK re-introduction for Park, who previously achieved success and notoriety in Norway, where she currently resides. Park was nominated for two Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannsprisen) awards back in 2003, including ‘Newcomer of the Year,’ and was nominated by Spirit magazine and P3 (a popular radio station) for ‘Best Norwegian Song of All Time,’ for her decidedly more mainstream pop single “Superworldunknown.” While Park has previously released an EP in the UK, Highwire Poetry will mark her first album release in Great Britain.
It should come as no surprise that some of Europe’s biggest artists/DJs/producers are clamoring to work with Karin Park, given her Scandinavian accolades and critical acclaim. She’s already supported the likes of Azari & III and SBTRKT on their recent European tours and gained support from renowned DJs Giles Peterson, Pete Tong and Zane Lowe. Her latest single, “Restless” has already been remixed by Liverpudlian electro group Ladytron (the people responsible for one of my all time favorite songs, “Seventeen“) and now we’ve been blessed by a remix from a production team going by the name of Genetix. Genetix consists of two well established DnB/Dubstep producers, Hoax and DJ Tron, who’ve put their magic touch on tracks by Timbaland & Pitbull (“Pass At Me“), Kelly Clarkson (“Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)“), and others. Make sure you listen to both remixes BELOW.
