BROODS are having a bit of a moment here in America, which OBVIOUSLY makes me happy. Since my last BROODS post went up, this serene-synthpop duo from New Zealand have; CANCELLED a planned North American tour, released a video for new single “Mother & Father,” announced a NEW North American Tour supporting (current “IT” artist and newly announced MTV VMA-nominee) Sam Smith AND made their U.S. network TV debut, performing on Late Night With Seth Meyers. WHOOSH!
First things first, check out Georgia and Caleb performing new single, “Mother & Father” on Seth Meyers‘ July 16th show:
While the performance started out a little rocky, the Kiwi brother and sister duo get into their groove by the time the song hits the first chorus and ultimately turn out an excellent performance. Great job guys! Still can’t believe that I saw them back in March at Mercury Lounge and now here they are on national television. What a ride! In addition to making their American television debut, Broods announced that they were taking the opening slot on Sam Smith‘s upcoming sold out North American Tour. Pretty awesome, considering they just announced the cancellation of their planned fall tour. Now we know why, I suppose.
Broods will release their debut album, Evergreen on October 7th (iTunes) here in America through Capitol Records (the album is out in New Zealand on August 22nd) as the follow up to their debut, self-titled EP which dropped in February. Evergreen features their breakthrough single, “Bridges,” as well as the equally gorgeous followup, “Never Gonna Change” and current single, “Mother & Father.” Also included on the album, a new song called “L.A.F.” which you can stream below. Talking about the new song, Georgia describes it as their “most experimental tune to date.” The new album was produced by New Zealand indie-pop producer Joel Little, the same guy behind fellow Kiwi breakout star, Lorde and her Grammy-winning Pure Heroine album.
