So it’s November 1st and we all have an extra hour of sleep in us now, so why not celebrate with a little giveaway? Revival, Selena Gomez‘s fifth studio album and first through Interscope is definitely one of the more consistent pop releases this Fall in my opinion. Featuring some solid hooks, lots of shimmery, on-trend synth-filled urban-pop and dance-pop production, Revival offers up a pleasant, more mature re-introduction to the former Disney star. So, to celebrate Revival and Selena Gomez‘s more mature pop sound, let’s do a little giveaway. I’m giving away 3 digital copies of her new album. For details on how to enter, check below.
While I’m now fully on board with Revival, it didn’t start out that way. Social media can be dangerous in the world of music journalism, where immediacy is KING on platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. It’s all about getting your opinion out there ASAP, oftentimes without putting any real thought into what you’re writing. This is a problem I deal with constantly, even as a lowly music blogger. I listen to something and immediately Tweet out a reaction when in reality, had I taken the time to actually listen to the album or song a few times, my opinion would have been completely different. When Selena Gomez released her last album, Revival (out now on Interscope) I wasn’t blown away…in fact, I was completely underwhelmed. Then, over the course of the next couple of weeks, I listened to the album a few more times and I started to change my mind. Revival is a solid collection of R&B and EDM-infused pop songs. I mean, this shouldn’t really have come as a surprise, given that the album credits read like a who’s who of chart-topping hitmakers—Rock Mafia (Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber), Hit-Boy (Beyoncé, Kanye West, Mary J. Blige), Benny Blanco (Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Ke$ha), Max Martin (Robyn, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson), Stargate (Beyoncé, Jordin Sparks, Rihanna), Dreamlab (The Wanted, Britney Spears, Selena Gomez & The Scene) and Steve Mac (Ella Henderson, Jess Glynne, Leona Lewis) to list just a few. While Revival isn’t PERFECT, there are some well-crafted pop gems to be found—with “Kill Em With Kindness,” “Hands To Myself,” “Same Old Love,” “Sober” and “Me & The Rhythm” moving t0 the head of the pack for me. So Selena, I stand corrected. I was too quick to judge and for that I apologize. Check out the videos for “Good For You” and “Same Old Love” below, as well as the audio for “Me & The Rhythm” (SUCH a bop) and a new remix of “Good For You” by Phantoms, which is out now (iTunes).
