“Fans can make you famous, a contract can make you rich, the press can make you a superstar, but only luv can make you a player.”
Hmm. Sounds like Madonna wrote that bit, doesn’t it? Next up we see M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj (looking fabulous in a long black wig with bangs) cheering away on the shoulders of two mysterious masked/wigged cheerleaders. The masks worn by the rest of the troupe are a little creepy, looking like identical Japanimation characters – big painted green eyes, a virtually non existent little nose and tiny painted pink lips, all wearing identical black wigs with bangs and matching cheer leading outfits with a big “M” on the front. Enter Madonna, looking fierce and fabulous as ever in a gorgeous khaki trench, pushing a buggy. Madonna eventually loses the classy trench and, rockin’ a sexy long sleeve black leather number, with hotpants and fishnets to complete the look. S-S-S-EXY Mama. How old are you again?
Overall the video is a lot of fun to watch, despite a whole lotta nonsensical bits throughout. It’s very visual, colorful and Madonna looks absolutely stunning in every scene. My favorite part of the video might be Madonna in a sexy little white lace number, dressed in homage to Marilyn Monroe, along with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj in blond wigs, sexy white dresses – absolutely stunning. Seeing Madge in a curly blond wig definitely calls to mind her Breathless Mahoney days. Check out these frame-by-frame reviews of the video over on The Daily Mail website and on MuuMuse. Very entertaining AND educational.
“Give Me All Your Luvin’” is energetic, fresh, current – just what you would expect Madonna to release in 2012. I don’t mean to call it “expected,” I am just saying that Madonna has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to popular music. Her only real musical flub (in my opinion) was Hard Candy, her top selling 2008 album. With Hard Candy Madonna seemed to be chasing after hip-hop, which as a genre, had been dominating (and still is to an extent) top 40 radio. Hard Candy felt really forced. Madonna doesn’t chase after musical trends, rather she is a trend setter. With the release of “Give Me All Your Luvin’” I feel like Madonna is back on track to being a trend setter. Pairing with Martin Solveig was certainly a wise move for the singer, and the additions of Minaj and M.I.A. should increase the song’s multiple format appeal.
Recorded in New York and LA, MDNA reunites Madonna with her former collaborator William Orbit (Ray Of Light), who worked on the song “Masterpiece,” Madonna’s Golden Globe-winning Best Song from her feature directorial debut effort W.E. as well as a number album cuts. In addition to Orbit, Madonna paired up with Solveig, The Demolition Crew, Marco “Benny” Benassi, Alessandro “Alle” Benassi, Hardy “Indigo” Muanza, and Michael Malih. Check out the STUNNING album artwork for MDNA above. Madonna has been doing LOADS of press lately for her movie W.E., Superbowl performance as well as her new album. Check out a new interview she did with GLBT magazine The Advocate HERE and watch her January 30th appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno here: PART 1, PART 2, PART 3.
