In the recently released video for “Chasing The Sun,” the boys of UK boy band The Wanted play victim to a troop of blood thirsty vampire vixens. Not too original if you ask me but it fits the song title perfectly. At least Director X didn’t take it in a Twilight direction, choosing instead to pay homage to Wesley Snipe‘s 1998 action/superhero film, Blade, about a part man/part vampire sworn to hold on to his humanity while vanquishing the world of the vampire menace. What better concept for a boy band?
One scene in particular calls to mind the movie comparison for me, the one where Blade raids a vampire rave, while a bangin’ remix of New Order‘s “Confusion” (the Pump Panel Remix to be exact) plays in the background. While the club seen in the “Chasing The Sun” video is far less sketchy and far less bloody, it’s still not a safe place for a human! The vampire babes in the video identify themselves as vampires with a kind of sun symbol stamped on their bodies (hands, thigh, etc.), yet another pseudo-parallel with the film! In the movie, it’s the vampire wannabes, AKA “familiars” are the ones wearing the identifying stamps. HERE, the boys (Max, Siva, Jay, Tom and Nathan) play the role of “familiars” in that they clearly know these girls are vampires and allow themselves to be ravaged, but not killed. Definitely makes for a hot video. There’s one scene where all of the boys are bitten…it’s quite erotic actually! Maybe that’s just me…
“Chasing The Sun” appears the group’s self-titled debut EP, which was released in America on April 17th (U.S. iTunes). The song was written by UK rapper Example and Alex Smith and features official remixes from Mario Larrea, Pariis Opera House and Tantrum Desire. The single is due for a UK release May 20th (iTunes UK).
