The Knocks are at it again, folks, KNOCKIN‘ out (#sorrynotsorry) yet another fierce as f— club killer, “Collect My Love,” featuring the big diva-voice stylings of rising star in his own right, Alex Newell. The song plays like one of those big 90s-2000s disco-house tracks, from back in the day when the dance charts were ruled by the likes of CeCe Peniston, Loleatta Holloway and Martha Wash, combining big beats and an even bigger vocal, filled with hand-raising high notes and attitude to spare. Check out the video for “Collect My Love” below, featuring this beautifully scuzzy city I call home as the backdrop, as well as a collective of colorful NYC nightlife staples, including Aquaria and Daphne from The Box and even an energetic gospel choir performing right there in the street. Fun video, fun song. Go check it out.

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, The Knocks are an electronic duo, Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “Mr. JPatt” Patterson, hailing from Manhattan’s trashy-chic Lower East Side (my favorite part of town for live music). “Collect My Love” appears on the boys’ So Classic EP, (iTunes | Spotify | SoundCloud) which features 5 tracks including guaranteed party-starter “Classic,” featuring up & coming synthpop duo POWERS (currently signed to Republic Records).
As for Alex Newell, the featured vocalist on “Collect My Love,” fans of the hit Fox series GLEE might recognize him from his role as fierce and fabulous Unique, the show’s first transgender character. SOME fans (myself included) might even remember Newell from the GLEE companion series on Oxygen called The Glee Project, a competition series featuring young singers and actors competing for a chance to guest star on the show. While he ended up coming in second, Newell became a series regular and appeared in multiple episodes all the way through to the series finale. Reportedly signed to Atlantic Records/Deep Well, Alex Newell is working on his own solo music, in the meantime appearing on a bevy of popular dance tracks, including “Stronger” by Clean Bandit, and “All Cried Out” by Blonde. This guy NEEDS to be a star IMMEDIATELY so here’s hoping this collaboration with The Knocks helps KNOCK things out of the park (#sorrynotsorry #again).
In addition to releasing the video, The Knocks put out a “Collect My Love” remix EP (Big Beat/Neon Gold) on Beatport featuring brand new mixes from GRAMMY-award winning producer Mat Zo, Leon Lour, Kue and Golden Boy. They will release their debut album this Fall on Big Beat/Neon Gold, which “promises to harken back to the golden years of vocal house, fused with the appeal of and flavor of pop music,” to which I say YASSSSSS! Be sure and catch The Knocks on tour this fall.
