Last week, UK singing sensation Olly Murs dropped his debut American single, “Heart Skips a Beat,” featuring hip-hop duo Chiddy Bang. Murs originally released “Heart Skips a Beat” last August as the lead single from his sophomore UK album, In Case You Didn’t Know. The UK version of the single featured the popular English rap duo, Rizzle Kicks and went on to debut at #1 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Olly Murs‘ second #1 hit single.
Written by Alex Smith, Samuel Preston and Jim Eliot, “Heart Skips a Beat” is Olly’s most successful single to date, having spent six straight weeks in the Top 10, selling over 400,000 copies and topping the charts in Germany and Switzerland. The song also gave Murs his second consecutive nod for ‘Best British Single‘ at the 2012 BRIT awards following his 2011 nomination for “Please Don’t Go” off his debut album.
While in the States, Murs shot a new video for the U.S. version of the single, which premiered on VEVO June 1st. The video was shot on May 14th (Olly’s 28th birthday) at Rose Bowl Stadium in Los Angeles and features Murs playing a variety of different characters including a spastic girls soccer coach, a goofy soccer player and a suave spectator. Chiddy Bang also appears in the video. While I think I still prefer the original Rizzle Kicks version of the song, it’s hard not to fall in love with Olly Murs, especially after seeing his goofy side in the new video. This guy just OOZES charm and personality!
Olly Murs will release his U.S. debut album sometime this Fall on Columbia Records, although not much else is known about it at this point. Stay tuned for more details! In the meantime, you can catch Olly on tour with the boys of One Direction. Oh, and speaking of One Direction, make sure you catch Olly singing an acoustic version of “Heart Skips a Beat” featuring One Direction‘s resident shaggy haired blond (and my favorite), Niall Horan. For an extra special treat, go visit SIKids.com to see Olly teach kids some of his soccer tricks from the set of the video.
